The Osprey is a tilt rotor VSTOL (vertical/short takeoff and landing) aircraft capable of ferrying troops between landing zones. It is scheduled to enter service with the US Marine Corps during 1999. The V-22 is slated to be unarmed, but is theoretically capable of carrying a nose mounted cannon for close support work and self defense.
